On July 24th 2009 we released 10 rabbits on a farm in the outskirts of Bilbao. Animals that waited, crammed in cages, his death to become a product of the food industry.

Anyone who carries a life-exempt, in whole, in animal products is responsible for animal exploitation. To not be part of this bloody indutria be taken as a first step, a way of life that rejects the spectrum and that no use of animal products.

Such actions may seem "insignificant" to some people. Would have no need to stress that they are 10 individuals who feel, who have been released from the bars, the bars and that the executioners had finished with his life, the killers and the consumer.

Fashion designers bring back real fur for winter

AUSTRALIAN fashion designers have broken a major taboo by bringing back real
fur in winter collections this year, angering animal rights activists.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have been ardently
against the use of fur or pelt in the fashion industry.

However, Alannah Hill, Lisa Ho and Rachel Gilbert are using rabbit fur in
collections, while Kaftan queen Camilla Franks is selling vests made from
raccoon and fox pelts.

But their fellow designers Nicola Finetti and Charlie Brown have spoken out
against the move which bucks the industry's strong anti-fur trend in recent
years.

"Fur is about killing animals. It doesn't matter how much you regulate the
fur industry, or where the fur comes from - it is always wrong," said
Finetti, whose designs are worn by Jennifer Hawkins and Miranda Otto.

Charlie Brown said while she loved animal prints, she was an advocate for
fake fur.

"We don't live in a freezing climate so what are we doing? It's not
necessary in Australia," she said.

Lisa Ho features rabbit fur in her current winter range, with a range of
jackets and vests in the pelt priced at up to $850.

Designer, Alannah Hill is also selling fur-trimmed pieces in her current
winter range.

She defended her use of rabbit, telling The Sunday Mail that she didn't
consider the animal pelt to be a fur.

"I don't use fur," she said. "I've used rabbit on collars and a tiny bit on
some cuffs, but to me that's not using fur."

Australian Vogue editor Kirstie Clements said the trend had filtered down
from the international catwalks.

At the Milan, New York, London, and Paris Fashion Week shows, a total of 164
designers featured animal skin or fur in their collections, up from 156 the
previous year.

"On the international stage, fur does appear to be making a comeback," she
said.

Introduction:

I am forwarding a letter writing campaign that has been initiated by Rabbit Rescue.
I was shocked to learn we had so many rabbit farms in Canada that were raised for food.
I did a little bit of research and found the numbers of farms per province from 2006.

Background Info:
In Canada, there are no laws that require that livestock rabbits receive minimum amounts of food, water, space, air regular supervision, sensible handling or effective health care.

The central issue regarding slaughter of food rabbits in Canada is that rabbits are suspended, stunned, then slaughtered (Note that this information comes from Canada's Meat Inspection Regulations) . The order of this process is what is inhumane: it would be just as easy for the rabbits to be stunned, then suspended, then slaughtered.

Minister Ritz claims in his replies to us that there are laws to ensure that rabbits are treated humanely during the slaughter process. I'm sure you would agree that the stringing up of rabbits by their hind legs before stunning them is not humane. Interestingly, this sequence of events during slaughter is unique to rabbits and birds. Other animals such as pigs and cows are afforded the humanity of being rendered unconscious before being strung up.

The other issue that Minister Ritz has failed to address is the lack of Code of Practice for rabbits. As of yet we have not received a satisfactory reply to the question of when rabbits will be included in the Codes of Practice.

Write A Letter:

We encourage you to send a polite reply to Minister Ritz requesting a response to your concerns about
1.) the more humane slaughter of rabbits, and
2.) a timeline for including rabbits in the Codes of Practice.

It is ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL that your letter be written in your own words, that it be sent by regular letter mail (not email).

You must include your address in the letter. A paragraph is all that is needed.

Polite and articulate letters that people took the time to write make ALL THE DIFFERENCE.

I am an owner of three wonderful rabbits, one of which was rescued by the OSPCA from an inhumane situation on a farm. I have recently become aware that food rabbits in Canada can be suspended for slaughter while still fully conscious. From my own experience I know that rabbits are highly sensitive animals and frighten easily. I cannot imagine the terror they must feel during this method of slaughter. I am writing to you to ask you to change the Humane Slaughter Act so that rabbits are protected from this unnecessary suffering, and are rendered unconscious prior to suspension.

I have also become aware that most food animals are protected by voluntary Codes of Practice that farmers are encouraged to follow, and that no codes exist for rabbits. I would like to see this go further and have laws for all of our farm animals that make best farming practices the standard.

I am looking forward to your response with regards to these two issues.
