Mr Cawsey was in Brigg Market Place with his rescue dog China the lurcher, to encourage more people to sign up to the campaign.
The microchipping move is being pushed for by the Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity which cares for more than 16,000 stray, unwanted and abandoned dogs every year.
The charity also has a non-destruction policy and will never put down a healthy dog.
They are currently campaigning for all dogs to be microchipped and are asking MPs for their support.
Their Dog Trust 'chip van' is touring the length and breadth of the country, to promote the benefits of the scheme.
Mr Cawsey said: "As a dog owner I can see first-hand the benefits of microchipping, " he said.
"Should my lurcher go missing, I know have done all I can to secure her safe return - you cannot put a price on this peace of mind.
"I believe compulsory microchipping is an act of responsibility we owe to our dogs," he said.
Mr Cawsey, a trustee of Jerry Green's, acquired China from the Broughton rescue centre in 2004.
